About the Teacher

My name is Amy.  I am a wife, a mother, and a teacher.  I love to stay busy and have a hard time saying "no".  I am married to my high school sweetheart, Jeremy.  We have three boys, Nicholas, David, and Heath.

I graduated from Virginia Tech in December 2000.  It was a semester early and a blessing in disguise.  A teacher retired early and I was able to get a job right away.  I went to college as a Biology major and left with a teaching degree and endorsements in PK through 12th grade Health and Physical Education.  I grew up as a child of two teachers, so I guess it was in my blood.  The homemade overhead projectors at age 10 may have also been a give away.

I started out teaching middle school health and PE.  I was moved to a new high school that opened.  It was then that I realized, I was not meant to teach at the high school level.  I was fortunate enough to move to the elementary level the following year and I have NEVER looked backed.

During my first five years at the elementary level, I traveled between two schools.  The last nine years, I have been at one school.  We use an Encore Rotation for PE, Music, Art, and Library.  Basically, it is like block scheduling for the elementary level.

I was also a high school varsity volleyball coach for 14 years.  I started coaching volleyball when I was in college.  My dad took over a high school program and I would help when I was in town from college.  Coaching was something that I knew I wanted to do.  My dad always coached and my family was always in a gym or on a field.  Right out of college, I coached three sports - basketball, volleyball, and track.  Once I had my first child, I gave up basketball and then a couple of years later gave up track.  After having my third son, I decided it was time to put more of my time towards my boys.  They are very involved and I love being able to support them!

I decided to put this blog together after searching for PE ideas and materials....and coming up empty handed.  I hope other PE teachers find the ideas helpful and rejuvenating!
